Release: Donnelly Asserts Commitment to Lower Gas Prices

Indianapolis, Ind. -- Today, Congressman Donnelly repeated his commitment to lowering gas prices for Hoosier families and criticized Senator Lugar’s support for raising the gas tax.

“Gas prices are too high, and too many Hoosier families are struggling to afford taking their kids to baseball practice, driving to church, and commuting to work,” said Donnelly. “Senator Lugar would make this worse by imposing up to a $1-per-gallon increase in the gas tax. Why would anyone support increasing the burden at the pump on the hardworking men and women of Indiana? I think it’s time to crack down on Wall Street speculators who artificially drive up the cost of oil for their own benefit. In the long-term, we need to go all-in when it comes to domestic energy production so we create jobs, lower energy costs, and keep our hard-earned money here at home.”

Last week, Donnelly wrote an op-ed for The Hill outlining his ideas on how to lower gas prices for American families. In 2009, Senator Lugar wrote an op-ed for the Washington Post proposing a higher gas tax--as much as $1 per gallon.
